In March 2013, The Othaya Group was commissioned to construct the Wangari Maathai sixth form block of the renowned Brookhouse School in Karen, Nairobi.
The building consists of six large classrooms in addition to a large multi-purpose hall as well as administration offices.
The project was a truly unique concept in the sense that this was the first educational building in Kenya, made entirely of logs and quite possibly, built in record time.
The construction of the sixth block commenced in March 2013 and was promptly completed in six months, ready for the start of the new school year in September 2013.
Aside from the beautiful aesthetics, an important reason for the use of timber as the prime material for construction, was that the building would be constructed from eco-friendly materials.
